Types of Repairs

Fibreglass and Kevlar

Fibreglass and Kevlar are amazing materials. Sometimes what looks questionable and possibly a write-off can be repaired quite successfully. If you are not sure give us a call.

We repair all types of composite and fiberglass kayaks, canoes and dinghies. No job is too big or too small!

Typical jobs include:

  • Renewing gel coat at the bow and stern
  • Fibreglass fractures
  • Seam damage
  • Barnacle gouges and scratches
  • Hardware & fitting replacement, upgrades or repairs
  • Steering and rudder components
  • Hatch cover, rim, seal and gasket
  • Bulkhead leak repairs, installation or replacement
  • Bulkhead repositioning to use space in front of foot pedals
  • Canoe seats, thwarts, yokes, ribs and gunwales
  • Wood and canvas canoes

Beaching or Keel Shoe

Preventative maintenance makes a difference. The wear at the keel ends of a kayak is to be expected when used in areas with rocky shorelines. Beefing up the areas getting the most wear will make it last that much longer before it is needed again. It protects the kayak or canoe hull from wear that is chewing into the hull itself.

Refinishing

When the bottom of your canoe or kayak starts to look like one continuous scuff, you can return it to like new condition by having the bottom sanded down to remove most of the old gel coat material (and weight) and all the scratches. When done properly, a new spray finish will reduce friction and bring back the glide without adding weight.

Deep Dish Yokes

Finding your canoe is wearing you down on the portage? Adding a deep dish yolk will give you renewed endurance for carrying your canoe! No more struggling to keep it on your shoulders. With a deep dish yoke, your energy can now be directed to negotating the trail and carrying the canoe. Makes your canoe feel 10lbs lighter!

Work Orders & Written Estimate

When we receive your canoe or kayak we will prepare a work order and provide you with a written estimate. This may require a little time so please be prepared to leave your boat with us. We need to examine your boat carefully to properly assess damage and prepare an accurate estimate.

If you have any other questions don't hesistate to call, email or come into the shop in person.
