What kayaks do you use for tours? This depends on the type of tour and the weather conditions for that tour. For our Glow Tours and Sunset and Firework tours, we only take double kayaks (2-person) for safety when paddling at night. During day tours, the choice of boats is up to the discretion of your guide based on weather conditions and group ratios. Our guides have to maintain a 1:6 (guide: participant) ratio in double kayaks or a 1:4 ratio in singles. All our kayaks are sea kayaks, made for touring, and equipped with safety features like sealed bulkheads.
-
Can I launch my boat from your ramp? No, we do not allow personal boats (kayaks or paddle boards) to launch from our ramp in Brentwood Bay. If you are wanting to meet up with friends renting from us, there is a public launch site located on the left side of the ferry terminal, next to the Brentwood Bay Resort in Verdier Park.
-
Do you rent motorized boats? We don't, but we highly recommend renting a small boat from Brentwood Bay Marina, connected to the Brentwood Bay Resort. Visit our neighbour for a 4 or 8 hour boating adventure. https://brentwoodbayresort.com/small-boat-rentals/
-
What do I wear to go kayaking? We recommend dressing for the weather! Be prepared to be active and comfortable. Any non-cotton active wear is ideal as it will keep you cool during the heat, as well as insulated layers in cooler weather or our night-time tours. For sunny weather, we recommend hats, sunglasses and sunscreen.
-
How will I know what time it is out on the water? If you do not have a waterproof watch, we do sell phone cases that you can take on the water with you if you would like to have your phone. If you do not have a watch or phone with you, please ask other people you see out on the water.
-
When does the last rental go out?Our last rental goes out 2 hours before closing.

How long does it take to go around Goudge and Fernie? This is easy to do within half an hour.
-
How long does it take to get to Portland Island?Portland takes about one and a half hours to paddle to at a moderate pace. Portland Island is a great destination for overnight trips, or a day trip, if you have lunch on the beach, and walk around the island.
-
How long does it take to get to Sidney Spit?It takes 1.5 - 2 hours to get to the main beach area. The spit is a beautiful place for a lunch break, or camping. If you are stopping on the island, ensure you bring the kayaks well above the high tide line, and don’t leave them on the tip of the Spit.
-
Can I launch my own boat from your ramp?Yes! There is a $5 launch fee per boat, and every person launching will also have to sign one of our waivers. This fee only includes your launch. We do not rent any safety gear, paddles etc. You are required to have this equipment with your personal boat.
-
Where can we go to get lunch/dinner?In Canoe Cove there are two options, The Fox & Monacle and The Stonehouse Pub. The Stonehouse Pub offers a diverse menu and is open 11am-8pm every day of the week except Tuesday.
-
Where do I park? When arriving at Canoe Cove Marina, the first thing you have to do is drive down to the furthest dock (E dock) and temporarily park in the loading zone spots while you collect a parking pass from our staff. Then, you will be parking in the gravel visitor lot which is the first left when entering the marina from Dolphin Road!
-
Do you see bioluminescence on every tour?Yes, we do!
-
What should I bring? All you need to bring is yourself! We recommend bringing a water bottle, and other extra clothing that may be needed due to weather conditions. You can bring your phone or camera to take pictures as the double kayaks are very stable, however, it is very tricky to catch pictures of the Bioluminescence.
-
What is Bioluminescence?Bioluminescence is the production of light created by living organisms. In Brentwood Bay, bioluminescence is caused by marine algae called "dinoflagellates." You will see them sparkling as you move the water. Join a tour to find out more information on this cool phenomenon!
-
What should I wear? You should wear comfortable, active clothing and dress for the weather conditions the night of your tour. You can bring layers, and add them or shed them if needed. You can wear any type of footwear as your feet will not be getting wet!
-
When is the best time to see bioluminescence? We see bioluminescence starting in April and going into October. It is best enjoyed starting mid May, and through the summer, and we will see it on every tour. Even when there is a full moon, we find enough shadows from the tree covered shorelines to provide dark waters, ideal for viewing the sparkles.
-
What kayaks do we take?We only take double kayaks (2 person kayaks) due to safety while paddling at night.
